How points work

The 10 + 2 = 12 rule

  1. You start with 10 points. 1 point = 1 tester you accept.
  2. Google Play needs 12 testers for 14 days. Test 2 apps to earn the last 2 points.
  3. Finishing a test = your notes + 4 screenshots, then stay opted in for 14 days.

What happens after you sign up

  1. Create your free account — you start with 10 points.
  2. List your app (about 2 minutes) so testers can find it.
  3. Test 2 apps and share your notes + screenshots to earn your last 2 points.
  4. Accept testers, track the 14-day countdown, and collect private feedback from your dashboard.

For newly created personal Play developer accounts, Google requires a closed test with at least 12 opted-in testers for 14 continuous days before you can apply for production access. Create a closed-testing track in Play Console, then share its opt-in link with accepted testers.

How do I get my app ready for production?
Use a community of fellow developers to genuinely test your app and give you honest feedback before you apply for production access. Google still reviews and approves every app itself.
How long is the testing phase?
For newly created personal Play developer accounts, Google requires at least 12 testers to remain opted in to your closed test for 14 continuous days before you can apply for production access.
Can’t I just use friends and family for testing?
Friends and family can be testers, but getting 12 people to opt in, use your app, and provide valuable feedback can be difficult. Fellow developers are better placed to find bugs and give you feedback worth acting on.
What if testers uninstall my app during the 14-day period?
Google counts testers who remain opted in to the closed test. Encourage testers to keep the app installed and actively test it throughout the 14 days so your test demonstrates genuine engagement.
Does meeting the 12-tester requirement guarantee production access?
