About IndieDevTest

Meet Pete, the indie Android developer behind IndieDevTest — and why he built a reciprocal testing community to clear Google Play's closed-testing requirement.

Indie Android developer — IndieDevTest founder

Hi, I'm Pete (Pieter). By day I'm a full-stack developer who builds Android apps on the side — just like you, probably, I was staring at Google Play's closed-testing wall with an app I wanted to ship.

New personal developer accounts have to run a closed test with at least 12 opted-in testers for 14 continuous days before applying for production access. I didn't have 12 app-building friends, and begging family to keep a beta installed for two weeks wasn't a testing strategy. So I ran the test myself, then built the tool I wished had existed: IndieDevTest, a place where indie devs genuinely test each other's apps and help each other improve. Google still reviews and approves every app itself — no tester community can promise otherwise.

I run this site myself and read every message. If something breaks, if a listing looks off, or if you just want to trade launch notes — get in touch.

What IndieDevTest stands for

  • Genuine testing only

Every test here is a real install by a real developer. Bots, paid installs, and rating exchanges are banned and moderated.

    Read the policy
  • Reciprocal by design

Testers earn the points to host their own tests by completing real tests of other devs' apps — builders helping builders.

    How points work
  • Free to use

No credit card, no premium tiers. The community only works if devs keep showing up for each other.
